Per-address email settings
Each address carries its own signature, footer and tracking. The catch-all covers what it catches, and one address’s choice copies to the rest in one step. Remote images and the blocklist can be set per address or per domain too.
Details
- Four settings belong to the address a message is sent from rather than to a person or a workspace: its signatures, the one-line “Sent via Nextmail” footer that goes out only while no signature applies, open tracking and link tracking. Each address holds its own, set under Settings → Addresses → the address → Signature and Outgoing tracking. None of the four has a value for the whole workspace or for your account.
- An address with nothing saved sends with no signature, the Nextmail footer on, and open and link tracking off, though a send to an audience tracks both unless the address has saved its own choice. A catch-all has a page of its own with the same two tabs: turn on Catch-all addresses in the Filters menu of the Addresses list and open the
*@domainrow, or follow the link in the domain’s Catch-all section. What it holds signs and tracks mail from the addresses it caught, never from ones you created, and a new address created on that domain starts from a copy of it, then changes on its own. A plus address with no page of its own, such as hello+receipts@, uses its base address. - The four have no workspace value underneath, so each address keeps its own. To make addresses match, the Signature tab has Copy, which puts the signature on the clipboard as formatted text to share or paste elsewhere; Paste, which replaces the box with what is on the clipboard; Copy from…, which fills the box with a signature of another address; and Apply to other addresses, which adds the signature you are editing to each address you tick, replacing the one with the same name there. The Outgoing tracking tab applies its two switches the same way. Each address gets a copy, so a later edit changes only the address it was made on.
- The four describe the address mail leaves from, so billing@ can sign as the accounts team and send its receipts untracked while hello@ keeps the footer and tracking it started with. Anybody who may send from an address can change its signature. Its tracking and privacy, a domain’s privacy and anything on a catch-all take permission to change workspace settings. Timezone, time and date format, week start, the default From address and undo send are not set per address.
- Every send path resolves the answer for the address it sends from: the composer, the REST API, the assistant, a rule and a schedule all sign and track by that address’s settings, then the catch-all’s for an address it caught, then the defaults. A send can still decide for itself:
tracking: { opens, clicks }on a REST or SDK send overrides either switch for that message, signature: falseleaves the signature off it, andsignatureIdpicks one of the address’s signatures in place of its default.GET /settingsandPATCH /settingstake?address=to read or write the settings of one address,*@domainfor a catch-all or@domainfor a whole domain, privacy included. - Privacy is layered. An address and a whole domain can each keep their own choice of remote images, trusted senders and blocklist, set under Settings → Addresses → the address → Privacy or Settings → Domains → the domain → Privacy. Whatever an address leaves alone follows its domain, whatever the domain leaves alone follows the workspace, and a plus address follows its base address. Mail is filtered by the blocklist of the address it arrives at, and its images load by that address’s choice.
